26/27 Preschool Calendar and Attendance Policy
Hi Families!
Attached is the 2026–2027 Preschool Calendar.
Just a friendly reminder that our preschool follows a different calendar than the rest of the Windsor Unified School District. Please be sure to refer to the preschool calendar when planning vacations, appointments, and childcare, as our school days, holidays, and breaks may be different from the K–12 schedule.
Attendance Policy at Margie Mejia Preschool.
Each child is allowed up to 20 "Best Interest of the Child" absences per school year. Please remember that sick absences do not count toward these 20 absences.
Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is a fundamental component of the California State Preschool Program (CSPP). It plays a crucial role in children's learning and overall success in school. Consistent attendance ensures that children fully benefit from the program and establish positive attendance habits for their future education.
Our attendance policy aligns with the regulations outlined by the California Department of Education, Title 5. Excessive unexcused absences may lead to termination from the program. Therefore, it is imperative that children attend on their designated days.
Parents are requested to inform the school each day their child will be absent and provide a reason for the absence, as per the California State Preschool Program policy. This helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensure the well-being of all children in our care.
Excused absences:
Illness or quarantine of the child (stomach ache, headache, fever, sore throat, runny nose, diarrhea, flu, cold, unidentified rashes, ringworm, scabies, live head lice, medical appointments, or any other serious illnesses or contagious diseases)
Illness or quarantine of the parent (same as above)
-
A family emergency defined as:
Serious illness of an immediate family member
Death in the family
No transportation and /or transportation problems (serious mechanical failure, car accident, bus didn’t come) that are beyond your control (no more than 10 days per year)
Court-ordered visitation – if an excused absence is based on time spent with a parent or other relative as required by a court of law, the basic data file must contain a copy of the court order.
-
Best Interest of the Child – is limited to 20 days per fiscal year (does not apply to children receiving Child Protective Services). An absence in the Best Interest of the Child is defined as:
Religious holiday
Visit with immediate family members
Need to be with parents (without a court order)
Family vacation/out of town or personal day
Unexcused absences:
Unexcused absences can be defined as, but not limited to:
Oversleeping or missing the school bus.
The child didn’t want to go to school/was crying.
Caretaker didn’t feel like taking the child to preschool.
Excessive unexcused absences could lead to removal from the preschool program.
-Children are encouraged to arrive latest by 9:00 AM each day so they can fully participate in the preschool routine and get the most out of their learning experiences. Arriving on time helps children settle into the classroom, engage in morning activities, and build consistency in their daily schedule.
Daily attendance is very important in our program. Consistent attendance helps children develop classroom routines, and build relationships with their peers and teachers.
Because enrollment is limited, regular attendance is required. Excessive absences may result in a student losing their placement in the program. If your child will be absent, please notify the school as soon as possible. We understand that illnesses and emergencies occur, and these situations will be considered on an individual basis.
